Scotland to Saigon by Rail

Engine on the old Lake Baikal railway April 28 2004: I flew to Glasgow, then headed to Kyle of Lochalsh by way of the West Highland Railway line, a ferry to the Isle of Skye, and a bus back to the mainland.

From Kyle I started a 17,000 mile rail trip that finished in Saigon seven months later. On the way I traveled through France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Mongolia and China. Then I rested up by revisiting some favorite places in Southeast Asia, before moving on to Myanmar, Indonesia and finally Australasia.

I spent a total of 10 months traveling by rail, with a few buses, boats and planes for side trips and Southeast Asia, before flying home from Sydney via Honolulu. I was tired, and in need of new clothes, but already thinking about the next trip...
